April 2009
April is promising to be a busy month for divers in the NW! From our Survey BBQ day to the dive expo, there's plenty to do. Be sure to visit REEF's booth at the NW Dive and Travel Expo on the 25th-26th! Saltwater State Park Survey and BBQ Day Many of you have taken the REEF ID classes recently, or will soon - now here's the practical portion of the class! Come dive with us on Saturday, April 18th. We'll be there from 10am - 3pm, BBQing burgers, answering ID questions, and helping out the newbies. All are welcome and encouraged to come - from seasoned veteran surveyors, to new surveyors. Currents should be mild that day, so you can get in at least one, possibly two dives. Drop me an email if you think there's even a chance you might come Testing, One, Two, Three... We're bringing the testing materials to the BBQ on April 18th. Try your hand at any of the tests and advance up a level in your surveying experience towards the Advanced Assessment Team. Click here for more info on which test is right for you. Let me know which test you'd like to shoot for. Level headed divers - revealing photos! We've had some recent advancements in the Pacific NW corner of the REEF world. Pam Jensen took and passed her Level 2 test, Robert Adams took and passed his Level 3 test, and Greg Jensen aced his Level 5 test and will now be invited to join the Advanced Assessment Team. A big underwater high five to them all! Class photos now posted Yes, it's true - mugs of lots of smiling faces are up on the internet for your browsing pleasure. Recent classes included Redondo's MaST center, and Yakima. Most imitated their favorite critter for the photo. There's still room in our upcoming Oregon Zoo and Port Townsend classes. April's Critter of the Month Advanced Assessment Team member Reg Reisenbichler wrote up this month's fish. While not super common, you may have already seen one but didn't know what it was. Need online ID help? We invite you to upload your mystery critters and ask your ID questions in our Critterwatcher Section of www.nwdiveclub.com. This is a VERY active forum of REEF surveyors and other knowledgeable Pacific NW divers. Everything from the most basic of critters to advanced ID questions are welcomed! Anyone can join - you'll need to register before posting. That's it for now, -
