February 2009 Love
is in the air and underwater this month. Puttin' on a show Ed Gullekson, Prez of the Boeing SeaHorses, sent in photos of this cool critter sighting. He found the funky-patterned fish on a night dive at the Alki Junkyard in Seattle. Check it out! We <3 Critter of the Month Mary
Jo Adams, from our Advanced Assessment Team, demonstrates her undying
love for this fish (hey, I have to put in Valentine's references somehow),
by writing up our mystery critter this month. Perhaps you've seen these
hanging around under docks and pilings. Gotta love those Lings Kevin Kaufman, one of our Vancouver BC divers, is hoping to round up a number of volunteers to help with the Vancouver Aquarium's 16th Annual Lingcod Eggmass Survey, which goes from Feb 7th - March 8th, 2009. You can find out way more info here. Thanks, Kevin, for the heads up on this one! Get your octo on! It must be the time of year for surveys, because the 9th Annual Seattle Aquarium Octopus Census is also taking place in February. I've heard a lot of reports of octopus sightings this year, so let's get out there and gather some data. More juicy details on how to help. Is the class half empty, or half full? Neither! Our March 13th & 14th REEF ID classes scheduled for Redondo's Marine Science and Technology Center (MaST) are completely full. Students signing up now are being placed on a waiting list in case there are cancellations. Spread the word! That's it for now - Best Fishes for a lovely February, -
