Pacific Coast current survey count

Pacific Spiny Lumpsuckers abound in Washington right now - be sure to check out the eelgrass in the shallows, especially on night dives and you might be in for a treat! And welcome to our California surveyors who are joining in on this list.

Feeling depressed?

Then this month's Critter of the Month is for you. And better yet, it's actually TWO for the price of one!

Round 'em up and turn 'em in!

Got surveys sitting around from 2009 and you keep meaning to get them submitted online? Well, now's the time to do it. Consider this a kick-in-the-drysuit to hop on your computer and submit those surveys.

Tip of the Month

Jackie DeHaven, member of our Advanced Assessment Team gives us this little gem: "When you're a new surveyor, it can get overwhelming looking for ALL those fish on that big list on the underwater paper. Instead, look at the list before you get in the water, and put a mark just by the ones you're really comfortable with and know well. Then look for those. Add new ones on subsequent dives and soon you'll be comfortable with all of them!"

2010 Classes filling up!

We've got three on the books (all are free!). The two March classes are almost full, but there's still plenty of room in the February Anacortes class. Why not join us? What else is there to do on a cold winter's day? Dive? :)

  • February: Shannon Point Marine Center, Anacortes WA
  • March: Oregon Zoo, Portland OR
  • March: MaST, Des Moines WA (Advanced Fish ID class!!)

That's it for now! Best Fishes for a Happy New Year!

- Janna :)
