Summer's here and there are fun events in store for critterwatchers! So let's get into it - read on...

World Oceans Day

Got landlubber friends or family who want to know what it's like underwater? Join REEF and the Seattle Aquarium for World Oceans Day on Saturday, June 6th at 11am (at the aquarium) for a talk given by yours truly titled "Beneath the Ocean: A SCUBA Diver's View". Photos and stories of local diving will be featured.

BBQ Time again!

Yes, we're having another one of our famous survey day/BBQ events - this time in Port Townsend. We'll be meeting at the Port Townsend Marine Science Center on Saturday, June 20th and diving around 1pm. Potluck munchies, hamburgers provided as usual. More info and signups here.

Dive and Count in the San Juan Islands

Naknek Charters and the SeaDoc Society have joined forces to offer a fun day of surveying on Sunday, July 5th, from 9am - 2pm. This will be a two tank dive for a special price offered to REEF surveyors for $75 (normally $90 - such a deal!). Pickup will be in Friday Harbor. To sign up call Naknek Charters at 360-378-9297 or email kurt@naknekcharters.com. Bring your camera so that as you participate in the survey, you can take photos to enter SeaDoc's Underwater Photo Contest (info down below).

Listen up!

Just wanted to let you know about a very cool piece that local diver, REEF surveyor and NPR reporter Ann Dornfeld wrote up about REEF in the northwest. It aired a few weeks ago on KUOW. She did an excellent job (yes, I know I'm biased...) and it was very informative and well done.

If that doesn't work with your computer, there are other ways to listen to it listed here, or you can read the print version (which isn't nearly as exciting)

June's Critter of the Month

Advanced Assessment Team member (and way cool photographer) Pete Naylor has created this month's mystery critter writeup and photo. You can see these guys in the San Juans! (like on the upcoming SeaDoc/Naknek boat dive, hint hint)

Picture this...

Heads up amateur photographers! The SeaDoc Society is holding their annual July photo contest for REEF surveyors again this year. Check out the details on SeaDoc's website.
