Saltwater Surveying and Snarfing

OK, so this is the ultra-cool news-of-the-month. REEF has partnered with WA State Parks to have REEF volunteers monitor the new artificial reef at Saltwater State Park! This will be a long-term project. Our first monitoring day will be on Saturday, April 18th. All surveyors, whether you've never done a survey, or are an AAT member (and anywhere in between) are invited to help survey the new reef. Come, snarf down some BBQ and potluck, and talk fish geek with your fellow divers.

Georgia's Number One!

REEF AAT Level 5 member and Oregon resident Georgia Arrow is now the Pacific Coast's numero uno surveyor with a total of 492 surveys! The Pacific Coast region includes California, Oregon, Washington and BC. That's a LOT of surveys! Way to go, Georgia! Can I have your autograph?

Orange you glad we always do the Critter of the Month?

Claude Nichols (AAT Level 5 and hubby) wrote up this month's featured invertebrate - can you figure out what it is?

Exercise your brain!

Volunteers needed for REEF booth at NW Dive Expo

Can you spare a few hours of your day on Saturday or Sunday to help share your experiences with expo-goers about REEF surveying? We need help with the booth, preferably 2 hour (or more!) segments between 10am - 6pm on Saturday, and 10am - 5pm on Sunday. Reply to this message if you can help!

Hood Canal does it again - Cool Critter!

Ryan Silbernagel has the blues. Bluebarred, that is. He sighted a fish that you don't just see everyday - and he found it in Hood Canal.

See his photo and read his story here

REEF makin' the rounds

REEF presented not one, but two posters at the recent Puget Sound Georgia Basin Ecosystem conference. One summarized the results of 7 years of monitoring the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary, and the other showed invasive tunicate monitoring by REEF volunteers.
