Pacific coast current survey count

I've added California to our tally count here - as we now have quite a few enthusiastic REEF neighbors to the south on our email list. We just got back from a training trip to the LA area where divers were most enthused about participating in the REEF program there.

Critter of the Month

AAT member Jeanne Luce took her turn at the wheel and wrote up this month's mystery critter. Is it bigger than a breadbox? Smaller than a thimble? Come on Jeanne, give us a clue at least!

Data, data, everywhere, but not a drop to drink

The AAT surveyed the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary (Neah Bay) in August, and the data is now posted for you to peek at. Here 'tis!

Testing, testing, 1 2 3?

Christine Pendergrass of Eugene Oregon looks different now. She no longer looks like a REEF level 2 surveyor, but looks like a full-fledged REEF level 3 surveyor. See if you agree

Tigers and Chinas and Canaries, Oh My:
Help us protect their habitat!

Please consider submitting comments to the WA Dept of Fish and Wildlife such as:

Dear Department of Fish and Wildlife:

Please establish an ecological reserve/underwater park within a small portion of the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary. The section of the OCNMS that lies within the Straits of Juan de Fuca contains Tiger, China and Canary rockfish, basket stars and giant pacific octopi, kelp and krill, and an amazing diversity of soft corals, sponges, anemones and other marine invertebrates. Please protect this national treasure by placing it off limits to fishing and invertebrate harvesting.

Comments can be submitted by mail to WDFW Rules Coordinator Lori Preuss at Lori.Preuss@dfw.wa.gov, or 600 Capitol Way N., Olympia, WA, 98501. Comments are due by December 1st, but the sooner they are received the better!
