Rockfish battle it out!

Check out this video of two Quillback rockfish duking it out, while a male Kelp Greenling appears to referee the brawl. See the video here

Ling Cod munches Starry Flounder

Brice Semmens and his wife Christy were on a dive at Edmonds during the summer of 2001 and came across this lingcod snacking on a Starry Flounder. Brice captured it on video. See the video here

Crab vs. Pipe

"This is a video taken in 6000 feet of water. An undersea robot is sawing a 3mm wide slit (1/10th of an inch ... remember that width) in a pipeline. The pressure inside the pipeline is 0 psig, while the pressure outside is 2700 psi, or 1.3 tons per square inch. Then a crab comes along...." See the video here

Twitterpated!

Joni Sensel and Claudia Frey saw a pair of mating Painted Greenlings on their Fish ID dives off Bandito Charters. Many fish exhibit weird behaviors when mating, and the Painted Greenling is no exception! Here's a very short video of Joni and Claudia describing the action. (thanks to Tom King for capturing this moment on video for us)

When you're hot, you're hot

Just a reminder to Pacific NW critter watchers - when you are filling out the Temperature information on the back of your survey forms, the Surface temperature refers to the temp of the WATER, not the outside air. If your computer is a slowpoke, like mine, you may want to just record the bottom temperature. But remember! WATER TEMP, not AIR!
