DIVING
BIO
A
good friend of mine, Melanie, talked me into taking an open water
diving class while we were at UofO back in 1992. It wasn't a hard
sell since it was offered as a university class and it was paid
for with tuition! I went onto AOW and Melanie became an instructor
and went on to work full time in the scuba industry running a dive
operation in Bimini, the Bahamas (Bimini
Undersea). I then dove
recreationally on and off for 8 years. It wasn't too long before
my dive buddies, including Melanie, started prompting me to look
at going professional. Coming from a long line of teachers, I made
the natural leap in early 2002 and have enjoyed instructing ever
since!

TEACHING
PHILOSOPHY
I am passionate about diving and dive safety which overlays eloquently
into my teaching. I believe in quality, not quantity and teach my
classes as such. I typically limit my classes to 4-6 students, but
have taught classes with more. It is important for me when signing
off on a student's final certification to firmly believe that the
student has received the best instruction possible. I also find
it important to teach courses with the idea of how the skills involved
will actually be applied to real diving situations. To accomplish
these various goals, I constantly seek out new ways to build upon
my general dive knowledge as well as continue my own personal diving
education.
